I just finished Gail Carriger's 2nd book in the Alexia Tarabotti series, Changeless and LOVED it!
The Goodreads Description:
Alexia Tarabotti, now Lady Maccon, awakens in the wee hours of the mid-afternoon to find her husband, who should be decently asleep like any normal werewolf, yelling at the top of his lungs. Then he disappears -- leaving her to deal with a regiment of supernatural soldiers encamped on her doorstep, a plethora of exorcised ghosts, and an angry Queen Victoria.
But Alexia is armed with her trusty parasol, the latest fashions, and an arsenal of biting civility. Even when her investigations take her into the backwaters of ugly waistcoats, Scotland, she is prepared: upending werewolf pack dynamics as only a soulless can.
She might even find time to track down her wayward husband, if she feels like it.
I've been asking myself whether or not I loved this book as much as the first, Soulless, and I really can't decide! They were both quite addicting. I will say that the way in which Carriger leaves this one is certainly a HUGE cliffhanger, making you salivate for the next book, which is yet to be released.
I'm definitely a huge fan of Alexia's (and therefore Carriger's) and plan to continue the series.
I think one of Carriger's greatest strengths is her way with characters. It's hard not to love each and every one of them, despite their odd and annoying habits. They seem so real that you are easily taken away and drawn to them. Lord Akeldama, Biffy, Lady Kingair, and Lord Maccon are just a few of my favorites, besides of course, Alexia. They are each so unique that I could go on and on about them all.
I also adore the way humor is interwoven into each page, making it appear effortless, along with the interesting steampunk vibe that Carriger has with her settings and inventions.
I just adore these books and the more I read them, the more they stand out as very different from the norm, in a good way.
Happy Reading Everyone!!!
